Telling time is supposed to be a relatively simple process. You look at the clock and you have the time, but is it really accurate? I think we all know that it really isn't. Everyday my alarm goes off in the morning and the radio is always at a different time. Sometimes it goes off before the news and other times during the news. The only real way to accurately tell time is with an atomic wall clock. This is by far the most sophisticated way that we've come up with for determining time.

I could go into a big explanation on why other clocks really don't work that well, but I won't. It really just comes down to the ability of a clock to accurately measure seconds. Any small variation in a second would add up over time. When you use an atomic clock, it actually is able to determine (quite accurately) the length of a second based on the frequency of an atom. I won't go into detail how it works, but that is why it is accurate. And no, this is not a clock designed for a nuclear war (which is what I thought the first time I heard of them).

Large Atomic Wall Clock

Basically a large clock is on that you would of seen while you're in school. It's just a classic looking clock that is big. I have a picture to the right of a typical one that you might see. This is the WT-3144P Classic and it is a very simple looking clock. The clock is actually 14 inches by 14 inches. It is also a little less than 2 inches thick.

The cool thing about this clock is all the little things that it is capable of doing. Even though it is a clock with hands, it will automatically adjust for daylight savings time. And it just runs on a single AA battery, so there really isn't much to it. It's just a very simple clock that tells extremely accurate time right down to the second. Digital Atomic Wall Clock

I have a picture to the right of the WT-8005U-S by La Crosse Technology. This is a pretty interesting wall clock. The big thing is that it is completely digital. But this is an atomic wall clock with thermometer for indoors. It will tell you the temperature of inside your home, which can be quite useful. It has the full date and time on it, for easy reading. The interesting thing is that this will function just like an alarm clock. You just mount it to the wall, or you can just leave it on your bed side table. It doesn't matter.

This is pretty good. There are not too many people that actually have wall clocks that are digital, but this model gives you the choice. You can easily put it on the wall or just let it stand on a desk. It does all the important things like time changes for the season and things like that. Sharp Atomic Wall Clock

When it comes to brands, Sharp is well known when it comes to this type of clock. I have a picture to the right of a very simple 14 inch clock. As you can see from the picture it has both digital and analog displays, so you shouldn't have any trouble getting the time. It has all the standard features that you would expect. It will adjust automatically for daylight savings time. It has an extremely accurate radio controlled movement.

The digital screen has a full display of the time and date, which includes the month, day and the day of the week. It also lets you see the signal strength, so that you can pick up the accurate time from an official source. Skyscan Atomic Wall Clock

I have a picture of a very simple Skyscan analog atomic wall clock to the right. This is another recognized brand name when it comes to the atomic clock. This is a pretty good one, so I thought I would show it to you. It has all the great features you would expect like being able to do daylight saving time by itself. It's also extremely easy for a person to use.

The neat thing about this one is that it will automatically set the correct time by receiving a radio single (NIST) in Fort Collins, Colorado and decoding that into the accurate time of the day. Atomic Wall Clock Weather

Another interesting feature that you'll appreciate about this type of clock is that some of them will give you the weather on them. I have a picture of the WS-8117U-IT-OAK atomic wall clock to the right and it is made by La Crosse Technology. It has the weather built right into it, so you can get the weather while you're checking the time.

It has all the world time zones built into this one, so you can literally pick anything you want and use the clock in just about any country.
